How important is all-wheel drive on the Nissan X-Trail?

I'm considering buying a Nissan X-Trail but I'm not sure if I really need the all-wheel drive feature. Is it worth the extra cost?

All-wheel drive can be a great asset in certain driving conditions, especially on rugged terrain or in inclement weather.

For city driving and occasional off-roading, front-wheel drive should suffice. Save some money and go with the base model.

As someone who lives in a mountainous area, I highly recommend springing for the all-wheel drive. It's saved me from getting stuck numerous times.
