Is it necessary to install a lift kit on a Nissan Patrol?

I recently purchased a Nissan Patrol and I'm wondering if it's really necessary to install a lift kit. I plan on doing some off-roading but nothing too extreme. Will it make a noticeable difference? Any advice would be appreciated.
