When should I replace the engine oil in my Nissan X-Trail?

I've owned my Nissan X-Trail for three years now and have not yet replaced the engine oil. How often should I do this and what type of oil is recommended?

I have a Nissan X-Trail myself and I usually change my engine oil every 6,000 miles. I also use synthetic oil for better engine protection.
